LIANG PO PO RAKES IN $1.4M

So HOO-HOO-HOO'S laughing all the way to the bank now?

The homegrown film, Liang Po Po- The Movie has made about $1.384 million in total box-office takings since it opened here on Feb 12. This figure includes the takings at its sneak previews over the Feb 5 weekend. It looks set to surpass the record set for another Singapore-produced movie, Money No Enough, which made about $6 million last year. Only Hollywood blockbusters Titanic and The Lost World surpassed it. The movie, produced by Raintree Pictures, the film arm of the Television Corporation of Singapore, stars comedian Jack Neo as an old woman who tangles with secret society thugs. The $800,000 comedy had to fight competition from other Chinese New Year movies which were released at the same time. To date, Jackie Chan's Gorgeous has made about $835,000, while Chow Yun Fat's The Corruptor has made $670,000.
