A $2 meal for Liang Po Po
Trio of
heroes HK comedian Eric Tsang, lead actor Jack Neo
and producer Eric Khoo
Liang Po Po is on the trail of two gangsters. As she
catches up with them, one of them gives her $2 to shake her
off.
She accepts the money- and uses it to buy a$2
Hamburger meal at McDonald's.
What gives?
Singapore's favourite grandma accepting money
from gangsters?
Relax, this isn't a scene from the upcoming Liang
Po Po- The Movie.
It's a commercial for McDonald's that will tie
in with the movie, scheduled to open on Feb 12.
But you'll get to see the commercial first- next
Tuesday to be exact.
McDonald's, a sponsor of the Liang Po Po production,
is also featured in the movie.
The scene is slightly different - instead of tailing
gangsters, Liang Po Po 's on the run from them and the police
and hides out in a McDonald's outlet.
The 30-second commercial was shot by Zhao Wei
Films.
For promoting the $2 Hamburger Meal, comedian
Jack Neo (who plays Liang Po Po) and fellow actors Mark Lee
and Henry Thia (left) will get more than $2.
The three men said it was a five-figure amount.
Henry joked that it's so much that he's still
unable to figure it out.
When Jack did his first McDonald's commercial
in 1992 with former partner Moses Lim, he only received a four-figure
sum.
But, Liang Po Po was not around back then. Jack
created her about a year later.
" Yah loh, Liang Po Po is more popular. Once,
when I made an appearance in Malaysia, the people were unhappy
because I was not in my Liang Po Po guise," Jack Neo said.
Jack has finished filming his next movie, That
One No Enough. After a week or two's rest, he will start work
on the soundtrack of Liang Po Po- The Movie.
Does he prefer appearing as himself in commercials?
"It doesn't matter which identity I take on. I'm
happy as long as the money ends up in Jack Neo's pocket!"
The $2 Hamburger Meal is available from today.
